Trust and autonomy

Enthusiasm is near-universal; delegation is not. The gap between the two is the real story.

Nine in ten travellers say they are excited about AI. Six in a hundred say they fully trust it. Both figures come from the same survey of 37,325 people, and the distance between them is the most consistent finding in this entire dataset.

Travellers use AI the way they use a knowledgeable but unverified acquaintance: happily for suggestions, cautiously for anything that costs money. Four in ten fact-check what it tells them. Roughly one in eight is comfortable letting it decide anything on its own.

The practical consequence for operators is that AI currently shapes the consideration set rather than closing the sale. That is still decisive — you cannot be booked if you are never considered — but it means agentic booking volumes will lag agentic planning volumes for some time.
